Website Shows Old Content After Migration Print

  • 0

Seeing old website content after a migration is usually caused by DNS caching, browser caching, Cloudflare caching or local device cache. It does not always mean the migration failed.

Common causes

  • Your device still resolves the old server IP.
  • DNS propagation is incomplete.
  • Cloudflare is caching the old site.
  • Your browser cache still has old assets.
  • The domain points correctly but www points elsewhere.
  • The migration copied an old version of the site.

What to check

  1. Test from mobile data as well as WiFi.
  2. Clear browser cache.
  3. Check www and non-www versions.
  4. Purge Cloudflare cache if used.
  5. Check DNS records.
  6. Ask support to confirm the server being reached.

Best practice

During migration, test using temporary URLs, hosts file testing or staging methods before DNS is changed.
